Eating out
These days, eating out is a normal part of our working and social lives. Enjoy yourself when eating out, but just remember to make better food choices:
Entrée |
Choose an entrée with lots of fresh vegetables and lean meats rather than deep fried foods (i.e. spring rolls, curry puffs). |
| |
Don’t butter your bread or rolls. |
| |
Skip the entrée, and opt for a side serve of vegetables or salad with dinner. |
Mains |
Meats – choose meals where the meat, chicken or fish is barbequed, steamed, poached, baked, roasted or grilled rather then sautéed, fried, creamed, escalloped or basted. |
| |
Rice – order streamed rice instead of fried rice. |
| |
Pasta – go for tomato-based rather than cream/cheese sauces. |
| |
Pizza – select a thin base and choose vegetable toppings. |
| |
Asian foods – choose stir-fried meat and vegetables dishes. |
| |
Don’t feel compelled to eat everything off your plate - you can ask for an entrée size meal as a main course. |
The Extras |
Order side salad, steamed vegetable or jacket potato instead of chips. |
Dessert |
Skip dessert or maybe share one with a friend. |
| |
Choose fruit based desserts. |
Drinks |
Coffees, tea and other hot drinks – ask for reduced fat or skim milk. |
| |
Ask for water for the table and limit alcoholic beverages. |
A run and grab meal |
Choose bread-based takeaways (sandwiches, rolls, pita bread) rather then pies, sausage rolls, chips, fried chicken and battered fish. |
| |
Try a small steak sandwich with salad instead of a burger with the lot. |
| |
Choose foods with fresh vegies, rice, pasta and lean meats eg sushi, salads, stir-fry. |
