Sunday 30 March, Suncorp Piazza, South Bank
Hundred’s of people put on their jogging shoes to take part in Queensland’s Biggest Workout on Sunday 30 March 2008 at South Bank, which launched the second phase of the Queensland Government’s Eat Well Be Active campaign.
The theme was ‘find your 30’ and cricket legend Matthew Hayden and swim star Samantha Riley and other health and fitness professionals were on hand to help everyone find an easy way to get active for 30 minutes a day.
The event kicked off with 97.3 FM’s Robyn Bailey introducing Queensland’s Biggest Workout, led by Fitness Queensland. People young and old were all put through their paces, with many being surprised by how easy it was to get a good workout without putting strain on your body.
After the workout, the crowd took the opportunity to check out the displays and grab a free showbag, a piece of fruit, a bottle of water and some sunscreen. Then it was time for a chat with celebrity guests Matthew Hayden and Samantha Riley, who each talked about their experiences with training, and keeping fit and active. Sport Minister Judy Spence then introduced the new ‘find your 30’ tv ads and a special message from tennis ace Pat Rafter.
Next up, everyone grabbed a free skipping rope and joined Matt Hayden for a skipping demonstration from the Heart Foundation team. It sure was interesting seeing Matt the Bat jumping rope with all the kids.
After a quick scurry up the rock climbing wall and testing their skill in the throwing cages, all the kids packed in for a fun performance from The Hooley Dooleys. This had everyone up on their feet, dancing and singing their special message about being fit, active and healthy.
Overall, it was a big, fun, happy and healthy day. Everyone walked away with loads of tips on how they can find 30 minutes in every day to get active.
