October 2009

National Walk to Work Day - Friday 2 Oct 2009

Now in its 7th year as a national initiative, Walk to Work Day encourages regular walking to improve health and contribute to a cleaner environment.

Walk to Work Day is a great opportunity for Queenslanders to find their 30 minutes of physical activity on Friday 2 October.  You can get involved by simply walking all or part of the way to work or if you catch public transport, why not hop off the bus, train or ferry a few stops earlier and walk the rest of the way.

AFL Masters National Carnival 2 Oct 2009 - 8 Oct 2009

A major national event on the masters footballers calendar. Teams from all states and territories are represented with team divisions from 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+ and veterans - over 55. The carnival is the largest AFL football carnival in Australia and attracts in excess of 800 players. More information: http://www.maf.asn.au/

Straddie Salute - 11 Oct 2009 

North Stradbroke Island


The Straddie Salute is a triathlon with a difference. It consists of a 600m ocean swim, 18km mountain bike ride and 8.5 coastal run. The event also includes a less challenging 7km Fun Run & Walk option and the ‘Straddie Gift’, a 100m beach sprint open to all competitors and the general public.  Set on one of Queensland’s iconic island destinations, the event offers a range of opportunities for the weekend fitness enthusiast.
