Work / Home Duties Tips

Work

  • Walk to work, or get off the train or bus a couple of stops earlier.

  • Ride your bike to work.

  • Start a lunch time walking group or go on your own. Don’t forget to submit your steps to the Queensland Step Counter.

  • Take a 10 minute break and stride around the block.

  • Use the stairs instead of taking the lift.

  • Take a dance or yoga class with work friends during your lunch break.

  • Walk to meetings that are a short distance away instead of taking a taxi.

  • Hold an office or work fitness challenge.

  • Enter a work team into a social sporting competition.

Home duties

  • Turn up the radio or put on your favourite CD and move with it.

  • Have a one-off session with a personal trainer and ask for a program that you can do at home.

  • Check out our range of easy exercises you can do from home. You don’t need any special equipment.

  • Make your own circuit class. Check out the exercises in our personal training section and include these as well.

  • Borrow a DVD on aerobics, pilates, dance or yoga and turn your living room into a personalised gym.

  • Use your catch-up time with friends as an opportunity to catch up on some exercise - walking, jogging or swimming.

  • Park your car at the furthest end of the car park and walk to the shopping centre.

  • Get a skipping rope and skip your way to health at home.

  • Do some heavy-duty housework and burn the calories while scrubbing, sweeping, mopping and vacuuming.

  • Get active mowing the lawn, and digging and weeding the garden. Try planting some vegies!

  • See if your local council is running any activities or walking groups in your local park. Council activities are often inexpensive or even free!
